Who are you waiting on? Tuesday, Feb 9 2010

Who is it that you are waiting on?

When we talk about women waiting on people we commonly think about serving them. We think about how we do our kids laundry and pick up our husbands socks but it seems like we are also waiting on people in another way. (more…)

The Earth Spins Faster Inside My Bathtub Thursday, Jan 21 2010

Really it does! I’m sure of it.

For many women, the bathtub is a refuge especially if they have kids. Even before I had kids there were times when I would come home from a hard day at work, grab a glass of wine, light up some candles and pour myself a hot bubble bath and then melt inside of it.

It seems that people know not to disturb people in the bathtub. When I had a room-mate, she would let me chill when she heard the tub running.. she knew the international signal for “I want so peace”. (The other symbol was the glass of wine I would pour before I even sat down after I walked in from work). The kids hear my bath and they know not to knock on the door (I can’t even get that for anything else in the bathroom!!)… the bath is a place for me to re-group.

The problem is…

My 9-11 Baby Friday, Aug 14 2009

Today I’m celebrating my son’s birthday. He was born 14 August 2001. When I meet other moms who have a son or daughter who was born that same year I wonder if they felt the way I did back then.

How do I love Thee? Monday, Jul 20 2009

Many times when people talk about love, it may invoke thoughts of romantic love; the light airy feeling one gets when they fall in love. It seems to be the love that we focus on most as we grow up. Often times it seems illusive to people, like they aren’t sure where to find it.

There are all sorts of love and many times people feel unloved especially by those close to them like family. (more…)

Why would anyone go to a Naturopath? Saturday, May 30 2009

I am friends with a lot of very conservative people. Some have even seen natural medicine as being from the devil or bordering on dabbling in witchcraft. I have other friends who have just always trusted MDs because that’s what they grew up with and that’s who they just go to.

step Mother’s Day Sunday, May 10 2009

Since my dad was in the Army, we moved around a lot and usually didn’t live near either set of grandparents. So… growing up, on Mother’s Day, it was all about my mom. There are 6 kids in my family and my parents are still together after 55 years this year. We would all go to church, have a meal and the day would be all about my mom, an army wife, a mother to 6 kids, a choir singer, church board member, employee etc etc. My mom is an amazing lady and I still don’ t know how she is still sane after raising all 6 of us kids with all the moves and changes.

Now that I have my own kids, of course, I appreciate what she did all the more; the sacrifices made, the energy she put in and what she got in return (which kids don’t always understand ..not til they get older). She was the role model I had for raising a family. While she was very successful,┬áthat model doesn’t exactly fit my family now. (more…)

My Cup of Tea ~o) Sunday, Apr 26 2009

As I grew into adulthood I could never did like the smell of coffee. My mom was more of a tea drinker so I followed suit. I have always been a tea drinker and love my tea.
