Who is trying to steal Christ from Christmas? Thursday, Dec 9 2010

Lately I have noticed several  Facebook groups called “Let’s keep Christ in Christmas”. I have simply been annoyed about this group. It seems that it is mostly geared toward consumerism and also that “people” are not celebrating what Christmas is. From what I gather, some Christians are upset at being wished a happy holiday!!!

How dare people wish you a happy holiday??

Since when does everyone in the United States have to acknowledge the christian definition of Christmas? Last time I checked this was a free country!! It seems that some Christians want to force everyone to celebrate what they do and that everyone should say Merry Christmas. This country is full of people from all over the world with different traditions and customs, we are a nation of blended people. We don’t all celebrate Christmas or do so in the same manner.

As for the consumerism well, this time of year lots of people like to acknowledge the people in their lives and honor them. How ever people do it is their own business. I personally like a well thought out gift and appreciate the time someone took to select something just for me. I’m not a huge fan of buying someone something just because they feel obligated or just because they are family. I find it amusing that there is a complaint about consumerism with some Christians yet they still go out and buy gifts. Whether it’s buying them for a homeless shelter or a kids program, it’s still consumerism.. right? I also like all the websites that popped up when I googled “Keep Christ in Christmas” selling items with that slogan on it.. HAHA, ironic right.. buy this bumper sticker that is against consumerism.

Look! You can’t go around telling people what to say and what to believe. You can only lead them and by leading them, live the life that you believe is best for you. When that is attractive to others, they will watch your lead and then move in closer.

No one is out to steal your baby Jesus, it’s not possible. The meaning of Christmas is in the hearts of those who believe in Christ and no one can ever take away your meaning. Take a look at so many of the symbols used in Christianity… Christians have taken Pagan rituals and symbols and given them a meaning that suits them. So much of Christian heritage and symbolism was adapted from Pagans. Look up some of the history of the symbols and celebrations and you will see.

There are those that go out of their way to exclude or include and I would say live and let live, if a child want’s to do some Christian symbols for art in school.. go ahead, if someone doesn’t celebrate Christmas, wish them a happy holiday or Winter!

Quit Hitting Me With Your GIANT Handbag!! Friday, Jan 22 2010

THERE! I said it!

Giant handbags are “IN” right now and seems like most women have one (or one in each color). I don’t carry one because I would turn into the MOM pack mule, it’s not my style.

I understand that YOU might want to carry a GIANT handbag but seriously.. (more…)

The Earth Spins Faster Inside My Bathtub Thursday, Jan 21 2010

Really it does! I’m sure of it.

For many women, the bathtub is a refuge especially if they have kids. Even before I had kids there were times when I would come home from a hard day at work, grab a glass of wine, light up some candles and pour myself a hot bubble bath and then melt inside of it.

It seems that people know not to disturb people in the bathtub. When I had a room-mate, she would let me chill when she heard the tub running.. she knew the international signal for “I want so peace”. (The other symbol was the glass of wine I would pour before I even sat down after I walked in from work). The kids hear my bath and they know not to knock on the door (I can’t even get that for anything else in the bathroom!!)… the bath is a place for me to re-group.

The problem is…

Christmas Gift Rant Wednesday, Dec 9 2009

It’s that time of year! I absolutely love Christmas, everything about Christmas transforms the look of everything. Riding down my street …I just LOVE seeing all the holiday lights and decorations. I love seeing the lit trees in the windows, big bows on cars and all that stuff…. and on the inside of homes there is the tree and ornaments and stockings and decorations and table runners and seasonal candles that warm the room with the scent of cinnamon or pine.. I absolutely love it. I even look forward to a big meal and making it.

There’s one thing I hate about Christmas though….

Teach Your Kid some Phone Manners! Sunday, Dec 6 2009

Things have changed significantly since I was a kid. Back in the day, we only had the black rotary telephones. We didn’t call our friends, WE WALKED TO THEIR HOUSE. Then when I got to about junior high, there were these fancy Trimline push button phones….now for us THAT was fancy…no more having to start over again when you were dialing your rotary and your finger slipped out and you hadn’t gotten all the way to the silver marker. The Letter Z Thursday, Oct 15 2009

Jake: “I think the letter Z is going to become extinct.”

Me: “Why?”

Jake: “Because it doesn’t get used very much.”

Me: “Well if Z was extinct… you couldn’t get a prize”

Jake: “….I think we should keep the letter Z.”

“Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.” John Lennon

I have spent a lot of time lately reflecting on the past. When I looked up quotes about the past most of them addressed negative issues… whether our past holds us back or hangs over us or drags us down.  I didn’t like any of the quotes.

I agree that it’s not good to live in the past… it’s better to let the negative things go…. but what about the good things in our past? Shouldn’t we reflect on that sometimes?

The B-52s Tuesday, Sep 22 2009

It was the 26th of January 1980…. I was a huge fan of Saturday Night Live (it was a dangerous thing that my dad did…putting a TV in my room so I could stay up late at night and watch alternative stuff). I didn’t always pay attention to the band but this night they had this band on that was retro (60’s retro) looking and when they started playing… they sounded retro! I fell in LOVE with the band!!

What’s the big deal about Facebook? Thursday, Aug 13 2009

Over a  year and a half ago my friend, Nancy, from college, kept inviting me to join Facebook. I kept thinking I didn’t want to join another web community. Then I came across my friend Andy on another website and he mentioned it, and that there were a lot of friends from college on there… so.. I relented.
