Who are you waiting on? Tuesday, Feb 9 2010

Who is it that you are waiting on?

When we talk about women waiting on people we commonly think about serving them. We think about how we do our kids laundry and pick up our husbands socks but it seems like we are also waiting on people in another way. (more…)

How my daughters raised money for the Haiti Earthquake by leveraging Monday, Feb 1 2010

I am very proud of my daughters who raised some money for Haiti. Hally is 11 and Ashlyn is 14. Their youth leader from their youth group at church challenged the 30 kids to raise $1000 total for the whole group. This is an amount that all the kids agreed to.

Lots of kids had different ideas on how to raise the money. One of my daughters got a can and took it to school and collected from students and staff and she raised $40.oo, that is a great amount from collecting for 3 days. My other daughter raised over $1100. Here is what she did…

Quit Hitting Me With Your GIANT Handbag!! Friday, Jan 22 2010

THERE! I said it!

Giant handbags are “IN” right now and seems like most women have one (or one in each color). I don’t carry one because I would turn into the MOM pack mule, it’s not my style.

I understand that YOU might want to carry a GIANT handbag but seriously.. (more…)

The Earth Spins Faster Inside My Bathtub Thursday, Jan 21 2010

Really it does! I’m sure of it.

For many women, the bathtub is a refuge especially if they have kids. Even before I had kids there were times when I would come home from a hard day at work, grab a glass of wine, light up some candles and pour myself a hot bubble bath and then melt inside of it.

It seems that people know not to disturb people in the bathtub. When I had a room-mate, she would let me chill when she heard the tub running.. she knew the international signal for “I want so peace”. (The other symbol was the glass of wine I would pour before I even sat down after I walked in from work). The kids hear my bath and they know not to knock on the door (I can’t even get that for anything else in the bathroom!!)… the bath is a place for me to re-group.

The problem is…

Serving in the Church. Saturday, Jan 9 2010

If you have ever attended any sort of christian church for any length of time, you most likely have been asked to “serve” in the church. There are many areas for people to serve.. but … not really. There seems to be 4 major areas that you can serve in; worship (ushering, working the sound board, behind the scenes making sure things go smoothly), welcoming (greeters, bulletin passer outers, refreshment managers etc), set up (those churches who meet in buildings they don’t own and have to set up for all the glitz and glam band shows) and childrens ministries.Ya might even have some missions in there somewhere…

No one job is more important than another, these tasks are all needed to make a traditional service happen. People are needed to run these areas, and they should if that is what they desire.

Many people feel that they would like to serve in some way… some even feel guilty when they don’t “serve” in the way the church is set up. So what should someone do when they don’t haveĀ  a desire to serve in those areas? (more…)

How did the FSU Seminoles beat the WVa Mountaineers in the Gator Bowl? Tuesday, Jan 5 2010

Bobby Bowden has been the coach for the Florida State Football team since 1976. He started coaching the season before my family moved from Tallahassee to South GA. My dad was finishing his senior year at FSU when Bobby came along (they are almost the same age).

Although my dad doesn’t like football, the rest of my family enjoys it. (more…)

How you may be unwittingly putting toxins in your body. Sunday, Dec 13 2009

So many people are doing detoxes to cleanse their livers and colons and even detoxes to cleanse the estrogens out of their system. Then they change their eating habits to make sure they aren’t putting the toxins back in and they are even switching their household cleaning products to less toxic products. They find ways to eliminate pharmaceutical drugs that are hard on the liver and find alternative treatments. That is a great thing to do for your body.

BUT! What is it that is toxic that you are exposing your body to every day??

Christmas Gift Rant Wednesday, Dec 9 2009

It’s that time of year! I absolutely love Christmas, everything about Christmas transforms the look of everything. Riding down my street …I just LOVE seeing all the holiday lights and decorations. I love seeing the lit trees in the windows, big bows on cars and all that stuff…. and on the inside of homes there is the tree and ornaments and stockings and decorations and table runners and seasonal candles that warm the room with the scent of cinnamon or pine.. I absolutely love it. I even look forward to a big meal and making it.

There’s one thing I hate about Christmas though….

Teach Your Kid some Phone Manners! Sunday, Dec 6 2009

Things have changed significantly since I was a kid. Back in the day, we only had the black rotary telephones. We didn’t call our friends, WE WALKED TO THEIR HOUSE. Then when I got to about junior high, there were these fancy Trimline push button phones….now for us THAT was fancy…no more having to start over again when you were dialing your rotary and your finger slipped out and you hadn’t gotten all the way to the silver marker.
